Brownfield Reclamation

The Steel Yard successfully reclaimed a brownfield around a historic mill, revitalizing a community with the input of many volunteers. Unusable space is now a public park, created with over 100 trees, a half-acre of green space, and on-site storm water management, bringing the community together for art shows, concerts, and public events.

Trail Maintenance and Improvement

The trails committee has been working in Rhode Island for 85 years, developing and improving trails for the enjoyment of Rhode Island's citizenry. They have battled erosion problems, built walkways and bridges across bogs and streams. In the spring of 2010 they gave more than 175 hours to repair damages due to historic flooding.

Mount Hope Farm Preservation

The preservation of the Mount Hope Farm in Bristol was not just after his heart, but a cause Senator Chafee himself endorsed in the last year of his life. The Mount Hope Trust helped raise money and pass a bond referendum to fund the purchase of the historic farm from the Haffenreffer estate, allowing Bristol to preserve 127 acres of open space noted as a priority in the town's comprehensive plan.

Collectively, we are preserving the heritage of our state for future generations.
