Environment Council of Rhode Island

...building an ecologically healthy future in a sustainable economy

Legislative Coffee Hour ~ January 31, 8:30 - 9:30

On behalf of the Environment Council of Rhode Island (ECRI) we invite you to this year’s first Legislative “Coffee Hour”. These annual events are part of ECRI’s efforts to promote awareness, understanding and effectiveness among the General Assembly regarding the environmental needs of our state. Given the persistent Covid pandemic, this one will be a virtual gathering.

We’ve scheduled our first 2023 Coffee from 8:30 to 9:30 AM on Tuesday morning, January 31.

Here is your link to the Zoom event:

Our virtual Coffee Hour is open to all legislators and interested members of the public. We hope that any interested member of ECRI or its member organizations will attend.

We’ll begin with a brief introduction to ECRI and our emerging legislative goals for the current session. Then Speaker Shekarchi will share his perspective from the House of Representatives. We’ve invited President Ruggerio to speak on behalf of the Senate. The remainder of the event is devoted to breakout sessions led by environmental advocates, to provide in-depth discussions with the attendees.
Breakout session topics will include:

  • Climate justice and environmental justice
  • Houses and buildings
  • Water, waste, and toxics, and
  • Land use (forests, farmlands, residential sites, and seashores)

We are very grateful for the environmental work done by last year’s General Assembly. Rhode Islanders understand that this work is not completed. Most of the necessary efforts begin in the General Assembly. Thus, we seek to stimulate a productive dialogue between elected representatives and their constituents.

We hope as many ECRI folks as possible will attend & participate!

James Crowley and Peter Trafton,
Co-Chairs of ECRI’s Political Committee
