Our mission is to plant, steward, and advocate for trees in Providence. We do this by providing free street trees to Providence residents through our Neighborhood Street Tree Planting Awards, by training and empowering people to become Providence Community Tree Keepers, and by fostering engagement with our Urban Forest.
Listening Tree Coop is a community of equality- and ecology-minded individuals, sharing meals, permaculture farming, hosting community events, and living cooperatively together in Chepachet, RI.
We are a cooperative household, incorporated as a limited equity housing cooperative to preserve farmland for farming, housing for people, and make it permanently affordable to do both here.
In a partnership with the Eastern RI Conservation District, Melville Elementary School in Portsmouth will create a rainwater garden to manage stormwater runoff on the school grounds.
In a partnership between the Greater YMCA, the Harry Kizirian Elementary School in Providence will create pollinator habitat in a local community garden as part of an after-school program.
Goff Middle School in Pawtucket will construct a school garden that will better connect urban youth to nature as well as provide nutritious, locally grown food.
Mount Pleasant High School in Providence was awarded $250 to construct a greenhouse on campus by students and managed by Special Needs students.
Exeter West Greenwich Junior High School was awarded $250 for materials for the construction of a new school garden.
The intent of this program is to provide middle school students with the experience of harvesting, germinating and disseminating native food-bearing trees into the community.
Students will grow vegetable seedlings to be distributed to local families in a food desert part of the city to encourage urban gardening.
