Salt Ponds Stewardship

The Salt Ponds Coalition was incorporated in 1986 and later merged with the Rhode Island Salt Pond Watchers in 1993. The Coalition works in conjunction with local communities, RIDEM, CRMC, URI Cooperative Extension and Watershed Watch, URI Coastal Resources Center / Sea Grant, and EPA to utilize data collected from the salt ponds and make decisions regarding public use of the salt ponds, zoning requirements in pond watersheds and the development of wastewater management programs. Their mission is to educate the residents of the Salt Pond's watersheds, implement environmental enhancement programs, act as a liaison between coastal communities and state and federal government agencies, and share their knowledge with other coastal areas.
