...building an ecologically healthy future in a sustainable economy

Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission on Menhaden November 1, 2012

From Kate Coyne-McCoy:

I work with the Pew Environment Group and am writing to let you know about an important opportunity happening in Rhode Island.  I hope you will join me at a hearing on November 1, 2012 at 6pm at the URI Bay Campus to urge the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission to implement strong protections for menhaden.

As you may know, by weight, more menhaden are caught than any other fish on the East Coast and the species has been in serious decline for years.  The presence of menhaden is critical for the ocean, birds, whales and our entire eco system.  We must take action now to protect and sustain this vital fish.

I have attached several slides which provide additional information.  I would be happy to come to a meeting of your group and provide additional information.  Further, before the hearing I will host a meet and greet near the URI Bay campus.  We can have some drinks and a light dinner and get to know each other.

Please help get the word out to friends of the ocean about this hearing.  I hope to hear from you about your ability to attend.  I am happy to provide talking points, sample testimony, petitions and or letters for you and your members to sign.

Again, Please Join me:
