A Strong Coalition

The Environment Council of Rhode Island (ECRI) is a coalition of organizations and individuals that serve as a powerful voice for developing, advocating, and lobbying for policies and laws that protect and enhance the environment.

The Council embodies and promotes the vision that together we can build an ecologically healthy future in a sustainable economy. ECRI provides its members with a forum for sharing information and technical expertise, and provides policymakers and the public with informed opinions and position statements.

The ECRI was founded in 1972 and we are the successor organization to the Rhode Island Wildlife Federation which was founded in 1938. The National Wildlife Federation was founded in 1936.

Learn More About The History of ECRI

As the Rhode Island affiliate of the NWF, we work to establish and maintain meaningful working relationships with members of Congress, federal agencies and non-government organizations to advance environmental protection affecting all fifty states and the world.

The ECRI was the National Wildlife Federation's "Affiliate of the Year" for 1990 under the leadership of President Eugenia Marks.
